Ocean Reef sits up on the ridge with some of the best ocean views on the northern corridor — and all the exposure that comes with them. There’s no shelter from the sea breeze up here. Then there’s the marina. The Ocean Reef Marina redevelopment is reshaping the coastline below the suburb, and construction has a habit of putting fine dust in the air. Fine dust becomes fine sediment on a pool floor — the kind a quick skim never touches. Our Gold and Platinum visits vacuum and brush it out before it stains the interior or feeds an algae bloom.
Most of Ocean Reef was built through the ’80s, and plenty of pools still run first- or second-generation equipment. We test and balance the water every visit, eyeball the plant gear while we’re there, and give you a straight answer on what’s worth nursing along versus replacing — before it fails mid-January.
