FAQ – Pool Service Questions Answered

FAQ · Pool service questions

The questions
we hear most.

Pricing, plans, green pools, equipment, Magna Minerals — the stuff Perth pool owners actually ask. If yours isn’t here, just call.

Service plans & pricing

How the three tiers work, what’s included, and how the bill stays predictable.

What’s included in each tier?

Bronze ($50 + GST/month) — water test, chemical balance, baskets emptied, equipment visual check, plain-English service report. Chemicals charged separately.

Gold ($90 + GST/month) — everything in Bronze, plus pool vacuum, brush down, and filter clean. Most popular tier.

Platinum ($120 + GST/month) — everything in Gold, plus all standard chemicals included, annual equipment check-up, priority callout slots, and one emergency call-out per year.

What chemicals are included with Platinum?

All standard chemicals used during routine service — chlorine, pH adjusters, alkalinity adjusters, stabiliser, and so on.

Two exceptions: bulk chemicals (5L and above) and mineral salt (Magna Minerals) are charged separately. Normal pool salt is included.

Can I just have a one-off service?

Absolutely. One-off visits start from $130 + GST plus chemicals. Useful before a party, after the kids have had the run of the place, or when you’ve been away.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

No call-out fees on regular service plans — the visit is the visit. For one-off visits or unscheduled emergencies, the call-out is built into the visit price.

What are your trading terms?

Seven days from invoice date.

How we work

Visits, technicians, suburbs, and how to reach us between services.

Do I need to be home during a visit?

No. Most regular customers aren’t home when we visit — we just need access to the pool area (gate code, key safe, dog gate). We send a service report after every visit.

Will the same technician visit my pool every time?

That’s the whole point of how we run. Same techs, same pools, every time. Your pool gets to know us — not just whoever’s on shift.

What suburbs do you service?

Perth metro. Coastal, suburban, and eastern foothills runs. If you’re inside the metro and unsure, just ask — we probably already service your neighbour.

What are your opening hours?

The office is open Monday–Friday 7am–5pm and Saturday 7am–12pm.

SMS is available 24/7 on +61 476 856 614.

How do I contact you between visits?

Call (08) 6109 9141 in office hours, SMS +61 476 856 614 any time, or email info@onlypoolsandhoses.com.au.

Green pools

Don’t panic. We’ve fixed worse.

My pool is green. What now?

Don’t panic — we’ve fixed worse. Green pool cleanups start from $450 + GST (chemicals are extra). Most pools are back to swim-ready inside 14 days. The earlier you call, the faster and cheaper it gets.

How long does a green pool clean take?

Most pools are clear within 7–14 days. Severely neglected pools can take longer.

Can a green pool always be saved?

In our experience, yes. We’ll tell you straight if draining is the better call — not what makes the biggest invoice.

Equipment

Pumps, filters, chlorinators, lights, heaters — how long they last and what to do when they don’t.

How long should pool equipment last?

Rough rule of thumb: pumps 8–12 years, filters 10+ years, salt chlorinator cells 5–7 years, chlorinator control units 8–10 years, LED pool lights 10–12 years.

Will heating my pool actually extend the season?

Yes — meaningfully. A properly sized heat pump in Perth gets you two to three more months of comfortable swimming.

Heat pump, gas, or solar — which?

Heat pump — lowest running cost long-term. Best for most Perth homes. Gas — fastest to heat, highest running cost. Best for on-demand. Solar — lowest running cost, depends on roof.

Magna Minerals

The wellness side of pool water.

What does Magna Minerals do?

Magnesium and potassium are added to your water alongside chlorine. The water feels softer on skin, the chlorine smell drops, and red eyes and skin irritation reduce noticeably.

Does Magna Minerals replace chlorine?

No. It works alongside chlorine and reduces how much chlorine your pool needs. Your pool still needs a base level of chlorine for proper sanitation.

Can I switch to Magna Minerals later?

Yes. Most pools can be converted with no equipment changes — the existing salt chlorinator and pump usually handle it fine.
